In
celebration
of
its
one
year
anniversary,
Mad
Art
Gallery
presents
a
multimedia
exhibit
and
performance
event
The
Potato
Eaters:
Dig
It
Baby!
On
Saturday,
January
19,
2002
five
artists
will
display
solo
and
collaborative
works
in
photography,
video,
painting,
drawing,
neon,
fiber,
food,
fire,
and
ice.
The
exhibit
honors
the
art
in
our
daily
lives
and
transforms
it
into
an
interactive
gala
of
sensory
overload.
Artists
involved
in
the
show
include:
- St.
Louis
artist
Nina
Ganci,
owner
of
the
phenomenally
successful
SKIF
International
fashion
design
studio.
Active
in
the
local
art
community,
Ganci
produces
and
participates
in
shows
throughout
the
St.
Louis
area,
including
many
for
charitable
causes.
- Frank
O'Brien,
a
senior
design
coordinator
at
Fleishman
Hillard
Creative,
has
shown
work
throughout
the
St.
Louis
region
over
the
past
12
years
and
serves
on
the
Art
St.
Louis
Program
Committee.
-
Rebecca
Stees,
originally
from
St.
Louis
and
now
an
art
instructor
and
program
manager
at
Creative
Growth
Art
Center
in
Oakland,
CA.
As
a
freelance
art
instructor
she's
taught
courses
in
ceramics,
printmaking,
bookmaking,
video,
writing,
painting
and
drawing
to
students
pre-school
through
adults.
- Andrea
Avery,
a
marketing
and
communications
coordinator
for
an
e-business
consulting
firm.
A
freelance
artist
and
writer,
she's
an
active
volunteer
in
organizations
throughout
the
St.
Louis
area
including
Metropolis,
Mentor
St.
Louis,
and
Laumeier
Sculpture
Park.
- Mad
Art
owner,
Ron
Buechele
opened
his
gallery
in
a
former
police
station
in
January
of
2001.
Selected
by
the
Riverfront
Times
as
the
Best
New
Gallery
of
2001,
Mad
Art
offers
a
unique
opportunity
for
area
artists.
Buechele
hopes
this
show
will
inspire
others
to
launch
collaborative
efforts
in
alternative
spaces.
Suggested
admission
to
the
show
is
$3
and/or
a
potato.
Vegetables
collected
will
be
used
the
evening
of
the
exhibit.
Monetary
proceeds
will
go
towards
the
creation
of
a
book
documenting
the
evening's
events.
