MAD ART GALLERY CELEBRATES ANNIVERSARY WITH THE POTATO EATERS EXHIBIT
November 5, 2001 (St. Louis, Missouri) -- In celebration of its one year anniversary, Mad Art Gallery presents a multimedia exhibit and performance event The Potato Eaters: Dig It Baby! On Saturday, January 19, 2002 five artists will display solo and collaborative works in photography, video, painting, drawing, neon, fiber, food, fire, and ice.  The exhibit honors the art in our daily lives and transforms it into an interactive gala of sensory overload. Artists involved in the show include:
  • St. Louis artist Nina Ganci, owner of the phenomenally successful SKIF International fashion design studio.   Active in the local art community, Ganci produces and participates in shows throughout the St. Louis area, including many for charitable causes.
  • Frank O'Brien, a senior design coordinator at Fleishman Hillard Creative, has shown work throughout the St. Louis region over the past 12 years and serves on the Art St. Louis Program Committee.
  • Rebecca Stees, originally from St. Louis and now an art instructor and program manager at Creative Growth Art Center in Oakland, CA. As a freelance art instructor she's taught courses in ceramics, printmaking, bookmaking, video, writing, painting and drawing to students pre-school through adults.
  • Andrea Avery, a marketing and communications coordinator for an e-business consulting firm.  A freelance artist and writer, she's an active volunteer in organizations throughout the St. Louis area including Metropolis, Mentor St. Louis, and Laumeier Sculpture Park.
  • Mad Art owner, Ron Buechele opened his gallery in a former police station in January of 2001.  Selected by the Riverfront Times as the Best New Gallery of 2001, Mad Art offers a unique opportunity for area artists.   Buechele hopes this show will inspire others to launch collaborative efforts in alternative spaces.

Suggested admission to the show is $3 and/or a potato.  Vegetables collected will be used the evening of the exhibit.  Monetary proceeds will go towards the creation of a book documenting the evening's events.

Mad Art Gallery is located in Soulard at 2727 South 12th Street, St. Louis, Missouri 63118. For more information visit our contacts page.
